Improving your Google listing

Website from only £35.00!
I have read hundreds of articles about this subject and as yet I am to get my main site www.jnkservices.co.uk into the top 10 for the key phrase North Wales Web Design, I am not far off, it is currently number 11.
I would love to see it at number one for this key phrase and for the key phrase web design. But I have to be realistic, there are thousands of web developers who are clamouring to do the same.
One thing that I have learnt is essential, make sure that your site, particularly its title and description are optimized for your key phrase.
I have seen sites that have little in the way of onsite optimization breaking into the top 10 for a given phrase, after spending time, and possibly money, ensuring that your site is optimized for search engines, this can be a little irksome. So how do they do it? Links, links and more links. A very important point here, you will get thousands of emails offering you thousands if not millions of links – DO NOT RESPOND TO THESE!!!!! They are at best a complete waste of money and at worst they may detriment your listing in the long term, do a search in google for paid for links, you will find several articles stating that Google are considering penalising sites that pay for links.
Ok, so how do you get good quality links and how many do you need to get to the top for your key phrase? Good quality links come from making contact with other website owners and exchanging links with them. The better the quality of the link, the better your chance of improving your position (page rank). A good quality link is one that is with a site closely related to yours – don’t go offering your competitors links! – for example if you design websites, a hosting company is a good link. The second part of the question, how many links do you need to get to the top for your key phrase, unfortunately is like asking “how long is a piece of string?” If you could find out how many links your competitors have, you would know….
